Not-Summer? Not a Bummer!

Here are the main differences between a beach community and a standard community: there’s a beach; you can hear the ocean without putting a seashell to your ear; you can also hear Jimmy Buffett or Beach Boys music playing somewhere nearby at any given moment; miniature golf is taken as seriously as the Masters; and finally, there are only two seasons recognized in these magical places instead of the usual four – summer…and not-summer.

Not-summer is the nine months of short, cold days and long, cold nights you endure waiting for the next summer to be born. “How do residents survive this annual ordeal,” you ask? It’s simple: the key to getting through not-summer with a smile on your face is to live in a beach community that’s located in an area that offers a gazillion things to do, all not-summer long. A community like Ocean View Beach Club, for example.

Ocean View Beach Club is dedicated to the art of living well – as in, living well within walking distance of Bethany Beach, where you’ll not only find a beach, as its name suggests, but also a full complement of dining and shopping options to keep your days and nights interesting.

If you’re worried that not-summers are so long that Bethany Beach might not be enough to get you through them, a short drive to the north gets you to Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach. Venture south and Fenwick Island awaits you – while truly intrepid explorers will boldly cross the line into Maryland, to sample the delights of Ocean City. As we said, there’s plenty to do in this unique part of the Eastern Seaboard, but if you’re not sure where to begin, here are three suggestions:

A Fifth of Holiday Cheer – Holiday spirits shift into overdrive on Saturday, December 5, in Bethany Beach, as the season kicks off with the town’s annual Holiday Happenings event at 1:00 p.m., the tree-lighting ceremony at 6:00 p.m. and the first of three Weekend Wonderland events, also at 1:00. The Long and Short of It – No matter how short the days get in not-summer, they still end with a sunset. And what better place to enjoy a sunset than Fager’s Island in Ocean City, where you can watch the sun sink slowly into the bay while you enjoy a happy hour – or two. Watch this Fager’s sunset and see if you don’t agree.

Beyond the Inlet Lie the Outlets – When you’re ready for holiday shopping, grab your list, check it twice and head up Route 1 to Tanger Outlets® in Rehoboth Beach. It’s actually three malls spanning two magnificent miles featuring every brand you can name, all at irresistible prices.

If you’ve always wanted to live near the beach, don’t settle for just a summer home. Come to K Hovnanian’s® homes for sale in Ocean View, DE, and discover why not-summer could turn out to be your favorite season.
